Enjoy the enchanting Elba Island

Elba Island Tuscany

Elba island is one of the most beautiful islands in the Mediterranean, and it’s easy to see why! With its clear blue sky, beautiful beaches and an historically significant past, it’s no wonder that so many people flock to see this incredible island. With our selection of Elba apartments and even some great Elba villas with pool, you’ll have a perfect base from which to explore and discover the many wonders of Elba Island.

Elba Island is probably best known for its connection with Napoleon Bonaparte, who, after being forced to abdicate in 1814, arrived on Elba’s shores. During his time on Elba, Napoleon certainly left his mark, and there are plenty of places you can visit to catch a glimpse of Napoleon’s influence and lifestyle. Try the Casa Vantini, where his mother used to stay, or Napoleon’s main residence: the Palazzina dei Mulini, which offers some spectacular views. His summer residence, the Villa San Martino, is also home to an interesting museum.

As well as being famous for harbouring a famous historical figure, the island is also famous for its delicious wine. Elba has a longstanding tradition of wine production, which goes right back to Etruscan times. Residents of the island were often noted as having a very healthy disposition, as this was accredited to the wine they drank! The famous “Aleatico” dessert wine is produced here, and this sweet red goes very well with chocolate based desserts. It even possesses a prestigious DOCG rating, which not many dessert wines have. If you want to try some of these wines, then why not follow the Elba Wine Route, which provides a great itinerary for food and wine lovers. You can reserve tasting sessions and get all the information you need from the tourist office.

If you fancy having a go at something a bit more active, then Elba is the perfect place to try your hand at a wealth of outdoor activities. Many visit the island for its incredible diving and snorkelling opportunities, and the rich terrain and spectacular views make it the perfect location for mountain biking, hiking, golf and sailing. And after all of this action, what’s the best thing to do? Go to a spa of course! The San Giovanni Spa is open from May to November, and offers amazing thermal baths, as well as relaxing massages and mud treatments.

And then of course, there are the beaches. Elba Island has over 70 stunning beaches, including the Cottoncello with its golden sands and the Sansone, renowned for its crystal clear waters. Try the Cavoli beach for a younger crowd, or the long white beaches of Capo Bianco- just perfect for kicking back and relaxing.

Although the best time to hit the beaches is during spring and summer, the island is a pleasure to visit all year round, with tourist attractions and wine tasting sessions available even during the colder months. Deciding on one of our Elba Island villas will be the easy task- the difficult thing will be deciding what you want to see or do first!
