The Charming Chianti Countryside

Chianti villa rental

The name “Chianti” certainly evokes one of the most famous and delicious wines in the world. However, the Chianti region is not only a place where great wine is produced, but also a place of outstanding natural beauty. It’s easy to find the perfect Tuscan countryside accommodation here, as we have a great selection of properties, including many Chianti villa rentals and farmhouses.

With its gentle rolling hills and perfect weather conditions, it’s easy to see why it’s possible to produce such tasty wine and olive oil in this area of Tuscany. The picturesque landscape, peppered with rustic stone villages and medieval towns, is home to numerous vineyards and olive groves, and has been labeled one of the most beautiful regions in this part of Italy.

From your villa in Chianti, you are spoilt for choice when it comes to places to visit and things to see. There are many charming towns and villages to explore, as well as a host of wine tasting opportunities. One place in particular that deserves a visit though, is the small town of Greve in Chianti. Described as being the “entrance gate” to the Chianti region, it’s named after the small river than runs through it. In the past, Greve in Chianti held a very beneficial strategic position, as it was on 3 important pilgrimage roads, thus favouring its economic growth.

Now, it still remains a market town, with the focal point being the main Piazza Matteotti. This interesting main square is not actually square shaped! Here, you can wander around and take in the relaxing atmosphere, before stopping for a coffee, glass of local wine or perhaps a tasty gelato. Don’t miss the neo-renaissance style town hall, or the Santa Croce church, with it’s amazing 14th century fresco of the Virgin Mary with Child.

If it’s more art you’re after, then look no further than the Museum of Sacred Art, which houses paintings and coloured terracotta sculpture. And at the popular Wine Museum you can read detailed descriptions of over 200 wines, before going on to taste them of course! Whether you want to shop for traditional Tuscan goods, visit the Saturday morning market or just meander through the small streets, this ‘entrance’ to one of the most beautiful areas in Italy is definitely worth a visit.

We have villa rental available all over Chianti, so whether you want a beautiful, private villa, or are more keen on a quaint, rustic farmhouse holiday, we’ve got just the place for you, with all the facilities that you need. This region is the perfect place to relax and unwind, as you immerse yourself in the stunningly beautiful countryside. While enjoying a nice glass of delicious, genuine Chianti wine of course…
