San Miniato National White Truffle Market comes this year to the 47th edition:  11/12-18/19-26 NOVEMBER 2017 (San Miniato – Pisa)

San Miniato is a mediaeval village set on a hill top in the heart of Tuscany between Florence and Pisa.  It has been able to preserve the richness of the folk traditions that still make the tourist feel the past.  As it is one of the most productive truffle-rich areas of Europe, the village hosts the most famous white truffle festival in the world.

For forty years the Mostra Mercato Nazionale del Tartufo Bianco di San Miniato transforms the ancient old village of San Miniato into a huge open-air tasting workshop for the entire month of November.    Over the years the White Truffle festival has expanded to become an International Market Festival and many other local products have been now added to the annual appointment such as wine, cheese and cold meats and crafts:  about 150 exhibitors that present food and wine excellences from Tuscany, Italy and Europe.

The white truffle from the San Miniato hills is the most prized and can be found a few centimetres deep in a limited number of areas.  Regulated by strict controls and a regional law that defines how they are gathered and marketed, the White Truffle of San Miniato is served in the best restaurants in the world.

Every year, thousands of gourmets and tourists visit San Miniato to appreciate the food and wine excellence of the area during the most expected event of the year.

The largest specimen of white truffle in the world was found in 1954 in the district of San Miniato in a village called Balconevisi:   it weighed 2520 grams and traveled across the Atlantic to be donated to the President of the United States, Dwight Eisenhower.
