Tuscany’s Best Thermal Baths

It’s a well-known fact that Italians love to relax, unwind and enjoy the simple pleasures in life, and there’s no better place to indulge in a bit of rest and relaxation than in the beautiful region of Tuscany, which is home to a large selection of natural thermal baths and gorgeous spas. So, pick out one of our charming holiday villas in Tuscany and get ready to relax!

Tuscany’s thermal baths are dotted all over the region, and whether it’s a luxury spa you’re after, or are keen on trying out one of the many free, natural springs located in the stunning Tuscan countryside, you’ll be spoilt for choice. The natural thermal waters that are found here are not only hot, inviting and incredibly relaxing, but they also offer health benefits, and are known for their healing properties. In fact, they have been used for this reason since the Roman times.
There are numerous natural springs all over Tuscany, but Bagni di San Filippo is one of the most popular. Used since the middle ages and located in a beautifully green, natural environment, it’s the perfect place to unwind. It’s also known for its natural mud too, which is great for skin conditions. Another renowned thermal bath is the Bagni di Petriolo; an enchanting hot spring with a temperature of 43°C, which was used by the powerful Medici family in the past. Well, if it’s good enough for them!

One of the most famous thermal locations in Tuscany is Bagno Vignoni. This little town, located on a hill overlooking the Val d’Orcia has been used since Roman and Etruscan times for its incredible thermal waters; the traditional pool is actually located in the main town square! Although this thermal pool is no longer open to the public, you’ll find free baths at the nearby Parco dei Mulini, and several modern spas nearby.

Talking of modern spas, why not really pamper yourself at the Venturina Spa, which offers many relaxing treatments including mud therapy and massages. It’s located right near the sea, so it’s a perfect option for you if you’re after a relaxing Tuscan coast holiday. Another excellent spa is the Chianciano Spa in the Siena province, which has a selection of fantastic mud treatments and mineral water therapy, the latter of which is great for gastro intestinal and liver conditions. The Thermal Spa at Bagni di Lucca is home to classic thermal cures and treatments, as well as two grottoes which provide healing natural vapours.
