Feasts and Festivals in Le Marche

Le Marche, or as it’s often said in English, The Marches, are located in central Italy. They are part of a very mountainous and hilly region, which also has 173 kilometres of glorious coastline and a very rich history. Thousands of visitors flock to Le Marche every year to discover this charming region, and one of the main things that draws them here, is the abundance of great festivals and celebrations. In Le Marche, there are all sorts of festivals and outdoor events which run from Spring up until Christmas time. Whether you’re into classical music, theatre, medieval fairs or enjoy tasting local food and wine specialities, Le Marche has something for you!
All of the villages get involved and all of them have lots of different occasions to celebrate, so why not go an celebrate with them!

One of the most exciting and popular types of festival in Le Marche is the jazz festival. In Spring and July you can visit the San Severio Blues Festival, which showcases all sorts of music from jazz to blues and rock, and often involves some famous artists. Or, head to the Umbria Jazz festival, which takes place in both July and at Christmas time, for an array of bands and different music stages.
Two of the most well-known and popular events however, are the Ancona Jazz festival and the Fano Jazz By The Sea festival. The former takes place during the balmy summer nights of mid-July at the Teatro delle Muse in Ancona and is a great place to see some famous Italian and international jazz performers. There are often jazz events held in early November too. Fano Jazz by the sea is one of the most famous events in the region, if not the country.
For a week at the end of July, jazz concerts take place in various locations, such as churches and town piazzas. There is a small entry fee (around €10), and there are also lots of other things to see and do too, such as visit exhibitions or indulge in some delicious local cuisine.

Speaking of cuisine, food and wine play a big part in Marche festivities, and at the start of November you can also enjoy the Festa del Vino Novello, which celebrates the new wine. There are also chestnut and truffle fairs, whilst in November there are several cheese fairs.
